ONE of the UK’s leading pedigree Holstein herds will be sold at a dispersal sale at Carlisle’s Borderway Mart.

Harrison & Hetherington (H&H) is handling the auction of the world-class cow families from the Newabbey herd, based near Dumfries.

Andrew and Alison Bunting will sell their exceptional mixture of awardwinning cows, heifers and calves on July 30.

The pair have invested heavily in the best genetics since 2002 to create a topquality herd.

Glyn Lucas, senior dairy auctioneer with H&H, said: “This really is a rare opportunity for buyers to bid for some exceptional cows, with some of the finest genetics in the UK dairy industry.

“We are expecting a lot of interest from buyers from across the country.”

The dispersal, which is a WINNING STEAKS: Winners Richard and John Cussons from Robin Hoods Bay with Jim Viggars, left, and James Martin, centre back, and Asda and ABP representatives result of a change in farming practices, will feature 112 lots of both show-winning types and cows bred for their high-production qualities.

One of the star attractions will be Sterndale Sterling Jodie Red. Bought as a calf for £10,000 in 2012 at the Global Classic Sale at the first Borderway UK Dairy Expo, she returned last year to win the red and white show, and take the intermediate champion in the Holstein show.

She is from the famous Fradon Jodie family and has 10 EX or VG dams in her pedigree.

Cows from the Ambrosia, Alicia, Beauty, Dellia, Aero, Lila Z, Marie, Pledge, Sabrina, Supra and Sara families will also feature.
