PETER Jagger, has been appointed head stalker for the Lonsdale Estates, in Cumbria.

He joins from Slough Hall, Suffolk, where he was head keeper and succeeds Gregor Cattanach who has retired after 36 years. Born and brought up in Suffolk, Mr Jagger started his gamekeeping career at 16 on the Brecklands of East Anglia, where he worked primarily with roe and red deer.

To gain management skills and techniques used on larger game in Europe, he spent two years working in Hungary. Mr Jagger said: “I am excited to be taking over the stalking reins of one of the most iconic estates in the Lake District.”

An important part of Mr Jagger’s role is to help and assist ill or injured deer. He will also be available for accompanied stalks of red and roe deer when in season.
