AN ESTATE which has belonged to the same family since the mid-17th century is on the market for offers of more than £3.75 million.
The Cragg Estate in Redesdale, Northumberland, has more than 1,000 acres with driven pheasant shooting and salmon fishing on 2.9 miles of the River Rede.
Ownership of the estate can be traced back to Anthony Reed who died in 1685. However, an epitaph erected in 1758 said the family at that time had been seated in Redesdale for 900 years.
Claire Whitfield, of Strutt & Parker’s Morpeth office, is handling the sale and said: “This is a unique estate and there really hasn’t been anything else like it on the market for some time.
“The main house itself is an exceptional family home and, combined with the sporting opportunities available, I predict a great deal of interest.”
