YORKSHIRE Dales farmers are invited to the launch of a new business support initiative which will provide 15 farms with detailed business and technical reviews designed to help give them a stable future.

The first meeting of The Dales Farming Group is at Hawes auction mart on Thursday, October 30, from 1pm-4pm. Run by SAC Consulting, and funded through The Prince’s Countryside Fund, the two year project aims to help all local farmers maximise their income by encouraging them to take stock of their business and supporting them in their decision making.

Regular meetings will be held and a variety of issues discussed. A number of drop-in clinics open to all local farms will be held during the Spring. Farmers will be able to book a one hour one to one to discuss specific issues - anything from animal health concerns to cash flow worries or to how the new Basic Payment Scheme will affect their business.

Local farmers who attend the launch will be considered members of the Group but the funding for the 15 business reviews will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, so farmers are advised to contact SAC Consulting as soon as possible.

James Hadwin, local SAC consultant, will undertake the business reviews. He said: “We hope the Dales Farming Group members will gain a better understanding of the business issues they face and have ideas about moving forward in a more sustainable way. We also envisage the group will continue to meet after the project finishes, providing collaborative working opportunities and the chance to go on sharing ideas and information.”
