A donation from the CLA Charitable Trust is helping to buoy a Cumbria-based charity.

The Lake District Calvert Trust has been given a £2,000 grant by the CLA – which represents landowners farmers and rural businesses in the region - to replace much needed buoyancy aids for water-based activities.

Lynn Healey, Business Manager for the Calvert Trust, which offers a range of activities for people with disabilities and their families and friends, said: “Our centre costs in excess of £1.3 million each year to run and visitor fees only cover part of our costs, so we are very reliant on and grateful for kind donations such as this from the CLA.

“The activities we offer provide hugely beneficial experiences for people of all ages with sensory, learning or physical disabilities, including those with the most complex needs, who cannot access mainstream outdoor activity centres.”

Based on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake and established for more than 35 years, the Lake District Calvert Trust welcomes around 3,000 visitors a year to its residential outdoor centre. In addition to water sports, activities on offer include climbing, abseiling and orienteering.

CLA Cumbria branch Chairman Chris Addison said: “The Calvert Trust has provided thousands of disabled people with life changing experiences and we are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause.”
