NORTH Sheep 2015 will include the search for the North's best young shepherd or shepherdess.

THE National Sheep Association (NSA) event is at Millstone Moor Farm, Cockermouth, on June 3, and the last "NSA North Sheep Young Shepherd of the Year Award" was won by Josh Ryder of Central House Farm, Haverah Park, Harrogate.

This year's winner will receive £300, a trophy, and will represent the region at NSA Sheep 2016 at Malvern in July 2016. The runner-up receives £200 and there are cash prizes down to tenth place.

On the day competitors must complete an Eblex lamb selection; shear two sheep; complete an ATV handling course; give examples of correct foot care techniques/ handling, vaccinating & dosing; and answer questions on flock management and health issues

The competition is open to young people aged up to 26 years on July 27, 2016. All must live in the NSA Northern region, must have a British Wool Marketing Board Blue Seal Certificate for shearing and complete an application form.
