FARMERS in the Leven Catchment can learn about the benefits of managing their soils and water to benefit their business at a free event being held by the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) and Tees Rivers Trust (TRT).

The event takes place on Tuesday (24th) at 10.30am at The Dudley Arms, Ingleby Greenhow, TS9 6LL and then a farm visit and machinery demonstration by permission of Tim Hawman at Whitley Hill Farm.

Attendees will be able to learn more about the environmental issues on the Leven and the solutions implemented, with an update on CAP and cross compliance requirements and how to implement them to get maximum benefits.

The walk will highlight the work Tim and the Tees Rivers Trust are doing, with support from the Environment Agency, to install alternative watering systems, including a solar trough. They will look at silt traps as a measure to capture and retain silt in the upper catchment and have a farm machinery demo from Opico on addressing soil compaction and the means of alleviating it.

Fraser Hugill, regional coordinator for the CFE in Yorkshire and North-East said: “This event will provide information on how farmers can reduce diffuse pollution and the benefits to the farm business of doing so.”

Booking is helpful up until the day before the event. Contact Sarah Maughan at CFE Yorkshire and the North East by text or call on 07432 562198 or email yorkshirenortheast@cfeonline.org.uk.
