ROOKWITH Marvellous, a pedigree Beef Shorthorn bull from North Yorkshire, sold for 20,000gns at the Stirling Bull Sales on Monday (February 3).

Marvellous was owned and bred by Ed Page of the Rookwith Herd, Bedale.This was the first time the Rookwith Herd had presented cattle for sale at the Stirling Bull Sales.

The price was joint top with another animal at the sale. Marvellous was shown and presented by Martin & Heather Grayshon. In the pre-sale show he stood Reserve Intermediate Champion out of over 80 bulls from across the country.

Marvellous was bred from Chapelton Waterloo and sired by Castlemount Junior, the bull bought by Mr Page at the Stirling Bull Sales back in 2017. Marvellous is the first progeny to be offered for sale from this breeding. Marvellous was shown successfully at the Royal Highland Show in 2019 where he stood Champion Junior Bull and Reserve Male overall in the Beef Shorthorn section.

Mr Page said he was “We are absolutely thrilled with the result and glad to see Marvellous sell to a good home where I am sure he will do well”.

The purchaser on the day was pedigree breeder Mr Thomas Staunton, Lough Curra, Co Galway, Ireland who will share the bull with fellow breeder Mr Robert Leach, Northampton.
