TWO more major agricultural events, the Northumberland County Show and the North Yorkshire Show, are the latest to fall victim to the coronavirus crisis.

The Northumberland event, due to take place on My 25, will not be staged later in the year but will instead be deferred to 2021.

A statement on the show website said: "Given the strategic national situation, the Show Committee of Tynedale Agricultural Society Ltd - who organise the Northumberland County Show - have reluctantly decided to cancel the show that was planned to take place on 25th May 2020.

"This is sad, but it seems clear the spread of the Coronavirus at large public gatherings poses a significant risk to health and we fully comply with the government’s guidance to defeat this disease. To avoid any uncertainty or speculation, we have taken the decision not to hold the event later in the year."

A statement on the North Yorkshire Show website said: "Due to the current uncertainty relating to the Coronavirus, the show committee has had no alternative but to cancel the 2020 County Show.

The 2021 show will be held at Camp Hill on 20th June 2021 and we look forward to seeing you there."
