This week, we honoured the work of a true Cumbrian unsung community hero.

Gill Wadeson, of Ainstable, runs a community choir for young people and they made an online song during the first lockdown to raise money for the NHS.

The project was initiated by the choir’s director Gill Wadeson who wanted to give the children a project to work on from their homes to inspire and reconnect them during the lock down.

The incredibly talented youth choir is based in North Cumbria for children aged eight to 18 years old who enjoy and have a talent for singing.

Originally Gill and the choir had hoped to raise £1,000, but they smashed this target within days. The video has also been viewed more than 3,000 times on YouTube.

Gill’s story attracted ample praise from commenters on our Facebook site.

Andris Kiss, who produced the track, spoke of how moved he was to have been involved.

He said: “My eyes get wet every time that big final moment kicks in with the added drums and everyone together. I’ll always feel honoured for the rest of my life for being asked to produce this. Good job all of you.”

Jenny Ruddick added: “Well done Gill Wadeson, so proud our kids were involved in this. You’re an inspiration.”

Elaine Rushton shared how moved she was also.

“Makes me smile and get goosebumps everything I listen to it.”

Not only has the track raised an amazing amount of money for a great cause, it has clearly moved a lot of our readers with its unique story.
