A SECOND guide to walks around Richmond has been published by volunteers after the first was a runaway success.
Two years ago, the volunteer-run Richmond Information Centre published Richmond Walks, a guide to four popular outings from the town. Thousands of copies have been sold to residents and visitors, and a third printing is in hand. Since RIC moved into new premises in Richmond’s Market Hall, most visitors leave clutching a copy.
Dozens of local walkers pitched in for a follow-up, many of them members of Richmondshire Ramblers or Swaledale Outdoor Club. When one contributor, Pam Heseltine, described “pootling round the local bridleways with friends”, the title came in a flash of revelation. The result was the new book, Pootling Round Richmond and Swaledale.
It launched on December 2 and features eight new, circular outings of four to eight miles. Four of the walks start in Richmond, four in Lower Swaledale, and all are beautifully illustrated in full colour, with maps.
Priced at £2.50, Pootling is available from Castle Hill Books in Richmond, from Richmond Information Centre, and from other retailers in Richmond and Reeth. It is also available, with Richmond Walks, from RIC’s website at www.richmondinfo.net.
