VOLUNTEERS from Northallerton Rugby Club have answered a call for help at the Covid-19 vaccination centre at the town’s Forum.

On Tuesday, December 15, Mowbray House Surgery contacted club vice Chairman H Johnson to see if he could gather a reliable group of volunteers to assist with traffic marshalling and public assistance over a three-day period.

By lunchtime the next day, after a few texts, phone calls and a Facebook appeal, a list of 12 willing volunteers was passed on to the surgery and then onwards to the NHS.

The shifts at the Northallerton Forum were all six hour stints from either 8am to 2pm or 2pm to 8pm.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Despite the cold weather, rain and long hours, all volunteers performed their duties with a smile and helpful nature. The rugby club would like to thank the following people for giving up their valuable time over the weekend and hopefully striking the first blow to get rid of this terrible disease - Chris Say, Simon Chandler, Phil Swall, Iain Swall, Paul Dennison, Simon Warren, Jeremy Deas, Sian Kay, Jimmy Fothergill, Dick Parkin, Charlotte Craven and Siobhan Woodland.”
