WEST Kirby lifeboat crew was involved in a major search after reports that a single whistle and cries for help had been heard across a nearby lake.

Last night's operation was launched after multiple reports that the sounds were heard in the direction of Tansky rocks.

During the search, West Kirby lifeboat crew was tasked to the lake, the station's all-terrain vehicle searched the beach along with the coastguard and fire service.

The volunteer crew completed a further extended searched around the moorings.

Once the lifeboat had searched the lake, it was then recovered to search the tide line on the west of Hilbre north and south supported by the coastguard teams who searched the islands and surrounding area.

The police helicopter was also used to assist the search, but nothing was located.
