A FAMILY business has seen one of its barns go up in flames for the third time.

In the early hours of Sunday, the barn, owned by the Hoggard family, was destroyed by fire.

Firefighters spent much of the night tackling the blaze, near Old Malton.

The blaze broke out shortly after midnight in the building, which contained 500 bales.

Crews from Malton, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside attended the incident.

By 2.45am they had reduced the fire to the point where all but one of the crews could return to their stations.

One crew remained at the scene for the majority of Monday.

The cause of the blaze is as yet unknown.

The barn is made of steel.

Suzanne Hoggard, whose family own the barn, along with The Whole Hogg Farm Shop and Tea Room, near Low Marishes, said: “We are devastated.

“This is the third time this has happened to one of our barns.”

Suzanne added: “The first time was 2007, the second time in 2015,and now this weekend.

“We are grateful to the fire crews who have been on site all night and await the outcome of their investigations into the cause of the fire.”

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Crews remained at the scene throughout Monday using hose reel jets and covering jets on the fire.

“They have been assisted by a farmer using machinery to pull the hay bales apart.”

The added that the incident remained open and the final cause had not yet been recorded.
