THERE is an open day for a rare sheep breed next month in County Durham.

On Sunday, August 8, a Zanfara Manx Loaghtan flock Open Day, takes place in Tow Law, at 10.30am. The day will include talks and genetics of four-horn sheep, with a display of skulls. There will also be a craft competition, art exhibition, a card-grading workshop and hands-on with the sheep.

The breed comes from the Isle of Man and has only been in the UK since the 1960s. The Manx Loaghtan Sheep Breeders' Group is keen to maintain the registered population of the breed.

Non-members of Manx Loaghtan Breeders' Group are welcome to the event.

For more information about attending the event, call Dr Louisa Gidney on 01388 731848 or email peasants@rentapeasant.co.uk or visit the breed website at www.manxloaghtansheep.org.
