A FARM shop has raised more than £10,000 for a charity which provides free transport for people undergoing cancer treatment.

Donation points at their tills and a variety of fundraising events have helped Brocksbushes, near Corbridge, raise the large sum for Daft as a Brush Patient Care, their chosen 'Charity of the Year' for 2019-2021.

Harry Dickinson, director of Brocksbushes, said: "Our Charity of the Year scheme started because we felt we could make a bigger impact focusing our fundraising efforts towards one cause at a time.

"2019's charity was Daft as a Brush Patient Care, and together we raised over £7,000 throughout the year. When the pandemic started, we decided to keep Daft as a Brush as our charity, as we were aware of how hard it was going to be, not just for businesses, but for charities too.

"The last two years have been different for everyone, but with the support of our fantastic customers, we were able to donate £1,000 in 2020 from our Pick Your Own Pumpkins event, and £1,000 from the Christmas fayre in 2021.

"The devoted volunteers at Daft as a Brush attended events whenever they were able, raising extra funds and spreading the word about the important work they do.

"As a family-run business, it is important to us that Brocksbushes supports the local community, so we are thrilled that the total raised for Daft as a Brush is over £10,000."

Brocksbushes, situated just off the Styford roundabout on the A69 near Corbridge, have now chosen Northumbria Blood Bikes as their 2022 Charity of the Year.

The charity uses volunteers to deliver essential blood and urgent medical supplies, out of hours, between hospitals and other healthcare sites in the North East.

Mr Dickinson said: "Everyone at Brocksbushes is very excited to be working with another worthy cause, who help save lives every day in our local area."

The farm shop is holding a 'Meet our Charity of the Year' event on Saturday, January 29, where customers can learn about Northumbria Blood Bikes.
