Pictures: North Yorkshire County Show returns to Northallerton

A two minute silence was held across the showground, at Otterington Hall, near Northallerton, at 12pm in memory of the late monarch.

Some groups pulled out of attending following national guidance around the period of mourning, including Young Farmers and charities with a royal patronage, while a parade of hounds in the main ring did not take place.

The show had moved from its traditional Father's Day slot in June to avoid clashing with family activities, and was returning to Otterington after a period being hosted at Camp Hill, Kirklington.

Show secretary Tricia Lovell said it had been a successful day. "It was our first show after a two-year break, with a new committee, a new home and a new date," she said. "It was all change but it has given us a good foundation for next year."

In addition to well supported cattle and sheep classes, there was a display of vintage tractors, showjumping in a variety of classes, and falconry. There was a slight mishap during one flying display in the main ring when a bird called Boris stunned himself after crashing into the barriers, but happily he appeared to make a full recovery.

Mrs Lovell thanked all those who had worked so hard to put the show on, everyone who supported the event, and Mr and Mrs Preston for allowing the use of the venue.

"It was a hugely positive day, with a good turnout," she added. "We've had tremendous support from local businesses."

Next year the show will take place on Sunday, September 10.
