More than £1,200 was raised at Catterick Young Farmers' Club's Christmas Cruise Tractor Run.

Organisers said there was an outstanding level of support with 56 tractors (including one car and a Kawasaki Mule) taking part on Tuesday, December 27.

There was an excellent turnout from members of the local agricultural community, hailing from a wide area of North Yorkshire.

Club chairman Tim Wilson organised the 40-mile route which passed through the parishes of Lower Wensleydale and Catterick. Participants started at Hackforth Village and trekked over to Redmire, coming back down the dale via Leyburn and Finghall.

Thankfully, plenty of pork pies and sausage rolls were provided to fill up the drivers and their passengers.

Many of the tractors were well decorated to suit the Christmas festivities. Winners of the best dressed tractor class were Emma Dunkley, first, Matthew Anderson, second, and Jack Jobling and Helen Jennings, third.

Mr Wilson commented on the fantastic turnout and thanked all for attending the first ever Catterick tractor run.

Organisers have also thanked all those who turned out in the rather bleak weather to watch the parade of machinery, and Cieran Imeson from Masham YFC for taking photographs.

A spokesperson said: "The club has enjoyed a very charitable year with a dinner dance, stockjudging evening, domino drive, rounders and summer sports day, tractor run and carol singing evening. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and new faces (who are always most welcome) in 2023."
