Events are being held in the Yorkshire Dales to help farmers with succession planning.

The Yorkshire Dales Farmer Network is organising two meetings for farmers, to discuss planning for the future including options and difficult conversations that might need to be had. Also, the potential pitfalls and other important issues such as taxation.

Farmer Network managing director Adam Day said: “The way forward or the way out, can become a minefield. We’d like to help farmers take a first step by looking at the options, in the hope that we may help them choose the right path. Standing still is rarely the best option.”

The first event on Tuesday, September 5, will be held at North Ribblesdale Rugby Club, Settle, starting at 7pm. The discussions will include presentations from solicitor Michael McGarry and Judith Smith of JS Accountancy.

The second event is on Thursday, September 7, also at 7pm, at The Kings Head, Masham with Edward Ryder, of Harrowells Solicitors and Richard Hall of Walter Dawson & Son Accountants.

Both events are being funded by Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The Farming Community Network will also be attendance. Refreshments are being provided on the night, so booking is essential.
