Bird flu
Traces of the highly pathogenic avian influenza have been located at a broiler breeder farm near Wooler, Northumberland.
In order to reduce the risk of a further outbreak, movement of poultry, carcases, eggs, and poultry manure is prohibited within a 3km Protection Zone and a 10km Surveillance Zone surrounding the farm, having been instated by Defra as of Monday, November 27.
This case follows on from two separate cases in Orkney, on November 22, and in Lincolnshire, on 9 November. The current government risk levels remain low among poultry farms.
However, scientists have raised concerns that the virus may increase further in the UK throughout winter as cases rise in Europe.
