An average of £1398 was achieved for 468 store cattle at Harrison and Hetherington's weekly sale.

Topping the sale at £1970 was a Limousin cross steers from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle.

The same breed led the heifers at £1770 for Messrs Holliday and Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, Wigton.

Cattle from Messrs Gorst, Gilpin, led the weaned cattle section with British Blue bullocks and Limousin heifers making £1440 and £1260.

Limousin bulls attained £1560 for Messrs Smith, Lake View.

A Simmental bull topped the weekly sale of calves at £700 for Connell Farms Ltd topping at £700 for a Simmental bull.

British Blue heifers topped at £660 from Messrs Dun, Jeanfield.

On Monday, the firm conducted the weekly sale of breeding and store lambs which sold to £210 a life for a Suffolk ewe and a single ewe lamb at foot from Haig Murray, The Beeches.

In lamb sheep realised £150 for Texel cross ewes from TA and J Brownrigg, Howmill, with store lambs peaking at £188 for a Beltex from Messrs Nordon, Hindrigg.

Bullocks sold to 404.3p per kg for 324kg Limousin crosses from West Cranloch, Ythanwells and to £1990 for a 904kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Quoynee, Halkirk.

Charolais crosses led the heifer trade at 368.4p for a pen of four weighing 380kg for Kincraigie Farms, Lumphanan, and to £2040 for a 718kg entry from Wester Cloackeasy, Urquhart.

Bulls (20) sold to 322.6p for a 310kg Limousin cross from Ledmacoy, Strathdon, and to £1960 for a 736kg Simmental cross from South Greycairn, Newmill.

On Tuesday, store hoggs followed the recent prime trade and reached record levels selling at prices never witnessed before in the market. The overall sale average of £112.93 included 362 blackface hoggs.

Store lambs (1598) averaged £111.43 and sold to £210 for Suffolks from Whitefolds, Tomnavoulin, with island consigned store lambs (213) cashing in at £125.08 having sold to £170 for Suffolk crosses from Rowland, Holm.

Texel crosses from Ord, Rhynie, led the breeding sheep section at £178.

Blue Texels topped the ewe lambs (127) for West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, at £192, having balanced out at £126.64.

On Tuesday, Craig Wilson sold six dairy cattle to a top of £2120 for a Holstein Friesian heifer from Messrs James Telfer, High Branchal.

This was closely followed by another fresh calved Holstein Friesian heifer from M and A Steel and Son, Ditton, which made £2100.

Also forward was 96 calves and stirks which sold to £1120 for Aberdeen Angus cross bullock stirks from Messrs Livingstone, Acholter, who also led the heifer stirks at £960.

Simmental cross calves from Kaimhill Farming, made £690 and £670 for bulls and heifers respectively.

Limousin cross heifers secured the top prices at Lawrie and Symington’s fortnightly sale of 841 store cattle when selling to £1940 for a 692kg entry from A Frame Home Farm, Glenbuck, and to 377.7p per kg for more weighing 278kg from J and J Bannatyne, Drumalbin, Biggar to average 280.2p.

Bullocks sold to £1860 for a 622kg Limousin cross from A Frame, Haininghead, Carluke, and to 375.7p for more of the same breed again from J and J Bannatyne, Drumalbin, crossing the weigh bridge at 338kg, bullocks levelled at 290.14p.
