ONE of our reporters reviewed their experience of The Maharaj, located on Botchergate, past Cumbria House.

The review praised the takeaway and rated it four out of five stars.

It said: "The Maharaj is from the outside a seemingly unassuming little takeaway that you could easily miss walking by, particularly when its near other takeaways with flashier, more extravagant exteriors - it doesn't look like, from the outside, somewhere that will provide a top-tier Indian meal."

Here's what readers said in response.

Dawn Wilson Wardle said: "My favourite Indian takeaway, best food and brilliant friendly staff."

Jody Wardle said: "Beautiful food best Indian in town."

Colette Wilson said: "Fab food and service," while Louise Varah added: "Absolutely amazing food. Best in town by far."

Ren Bell said: "One of my favourites," and Rachael Casson said: "Best in Carlisle and those coconut and cheese naan breads are something else."

Sarah Wardle Fitzpatrick also commented: "Best Indian takeaway in Carlisle."

The review concluded by saying: "It's a good reminder that looks can be deceiving, never to judge a book by its cover, as while it appeared unexciting from the outside, the food was very high quality.

"I can safely say that this place got everything right, for me at least, and will firmly become my go-to option for Indian food."
