A public information event will take place for a 1GW energy storage project proposed for farmland north of East Rounton, near Northallerton.

The event takes places at Rountons Village Hall, East Rounton, from 3pm to 7pm tomorrow, Friday, November 29.

The proposed “Mowbray” scheme would incorporate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), a transmission connected substation and “large areas of new tree planting to support local wildlife and help screen the site”.

According to the NatPower project website – www.natpower.uk/project/Mowbray/ – a consultation process will run from tomorrow to December 13.

“We will publish further details about our proposals, including how you can provide feedback, at the start of the consultation,” the website adds.

“We are holding an information event for the local community, where members of the team will be available to answer questions and discuss the proposals in more detail. Please come along, chat with the team and let us know what you think.

“Once we have reviewed all the feedback, we will finalise our plans and submit a full planning application to North Yorkshire Council. As part of the application, we will submit a document that summarises the comments received from the local community.

“North Yorkshire Council will then conduct its own statutory consultation before determining the application.”

NatPower UK describes itself as having the “largest energy transition development programme in the UK, aiming at integrating large scale smart clean energy generation and distribution with large scale intermittent clean energy demand”.
