Two boys have been arrested after a fire ripped through 200 hay bales and caused £10,000 worth of damage.
Firefighters were called to farmland on Quarry Lane, between Saltburn and Marske, at about 11am on Thursday (October 9), following calls from members of the public who reported that hay bales and grass were on fire.
Officers from Cleveland Police also attended the incident, which saw them search the area for those responsible.
Two boys, aged 11 and 12, were arrested in woodland in the Hazelgrove area of Saltburn, before being interviewed on suspicion of arson.
They have since been bailed pending further investigation.
Police say the incident caused £10,000 worth of damage, which saw the hay bales and a sheep feeder destroyed in the fire.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Two children were arrested yesterday as emergency services responded to multiple calls from the public about there being around 200 hay bales on fire.
"Our Fire Brigade colleagues attended the scene near Quarry Lane between Saltburn and Marske at around 11am, while officers carried out multiple area searches with the help of information which was coming in from the public.
"The boys, 11 and 12, were subsequently arrested in woodland in the Hazelgrove area of Saltburn and were questioned on suspicion of arson before being bailed pending further enquiries.
"It is believed there was approximately £10,000 of damage to the bales, and a sheep feeder was also affected by the blaze, meaning a huge cost as well as great inconvenience to the farmer."
