It's just over a week until the 2026 Northern Farmer Awards and each day in the run-up to the ceremony we're profiling finalists in one of our 11 categories.
The winners will be announced at Pavilions of Harrogate, the Great Yorkshire Showground, on Thursday, February 19.
The sparkling ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter Jules Hudson and is backed by a host of leading agricultural businesses and organisations from across the North of England.
Today we are profiling the finalists in the Excellence in Agricultural Services category, sponsored by Jacksons:
Bainbridge Engineering
With decades of industry experience, Bainbridge Engineering, based at Thirsk, has built a strong reputation for innovation, quality, and reliability within the agricultural sector.
Renowned for the fabrication of handling equipment – including tractor and loader brackets, buckets, bale spikes, and muck forks – every product is CE approved and manufactured to the highest standard.
Bainbridge Engineering is also proud to be the home of the Bainbridge Rotary Sweeper (BRS), a bucket-mounted sweeper that transforms a standard material handling bucket into a highly versatile collector unit. The BRS and a range of equipment have been a regular feature at the Great Yorkshire Show since 2006.
Beyond fabrication, Bainbridge Engineering offers a specialist service in the refurbishment of feeders and feeder sales. This dual expertise in both creating and restoring essential agricultural equipment ensures that farmers and land managers can rely on a trusted partner to keep operations running smoothly.
The firm offers a comprehensive service specialising in the refurbishment of feeders, either sending out reline plates to customers or relining the feeder in the workshop, providing the equivalent of a courtesy car, a replacement feeder so the customer is not out of action. They can also supply most parts for feeders, from chains, bearings to blades.
Boasting a good stock of up-to-date machinery, which includes lathes, radial arm drilling machines, cutters and plasmas, Bainbridge Engineering can turn their hands to all kinds of fabrication work.
JD Agricultural Ltd
JD Agricultural Ltd is a family-run business serving Durham and the North-East, with a passion for farming, construction support, and agricultural services.
Established in 2017, but with more than 30 years of industry experience, the firm has grown to become a trusted partner for farmers, landowners, and contractors across the region.
The firm specialises in providing a range of machinery and services. From operated digger hire, post knockers, dumpers, and Bobcat skid-steers, to loaders with multiple attachments, their equipment is modern, well-maintained, and available for both short- and long-term hire.
Key to their reputation is their dedicated, highly trained team. All operators are CSPS qualified and bring technical skill, as well as the care and professionalism needed to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality results.
The firm prides itself on modern, well-maintained machinery ready to work; operators who are trained, qualified and committed; bespoke hire packages tailored to each client; and a guarantee of excellence in every project.
John Dylan Walker has built up a successful agricultural business, JD Agricultural Ltd, from scratch despite being only 20 years old.
His nominator said: "I have been impressed by how knowledgeable John is about the agricultural sector and the commercial side, driven by his great personality which has helped him develop his network of customers and suppliers.
"His willingness to get stuck into whatever the task at hand may has been an integral part of his success and, from a personal perspective, it has been excellent to see him flourish over the years."
LOGIC Manufacturing
LOGIC, based at Davison Tyne Works, Hexham, is the original manufacturer of ATV equipment, initially engineering small trailers for some of the first three-wheeled ATVs back in 1978 to today. However, the company came about initially in the late 1960s as the brainchild of local farmer, Willie Rutherford.
Willie started making agricultural equipment in his farm workshop and success quickly followed. He built the ‘Logic Tractor’ in 1971, which was featured on national TV and became the name for the manufacturing company.
From 1971-1974, a small factory and production team was established to make tractor-mounted farm equipment. In 1978, ATVs arrived from the USA as recreational machines, and Logic ATV Equip was launched.
After designing both a suitable towing bracket and trailer, a huge choice of equipment began to emerge.

There are two Logic bases covering the UK and export markets: Hexham is the main manufacturing centre and services northern England, Scotland, Ireland and export sales, while the branch, near Cheltenham, looks after southern England and Wales.
The current director Simon Beniams turned up on Willie's doorstep in 1983 and asked for a job. Fresh from his father's farm aged 18 and with good farming knowledge, he wanted to work with manufacturing and machinery.
Now 44 years later, Simon is keeping up the tradition started all those years ago. Since Willie's death in 2011, Simon has continued developing and expanding production and ensuring the quality and development of their products.
